G5ers Backpacks for Bend

Every year G5 participates in Backpacks for Bend, a local charity to help hungry children in the Bend/La Pine School District. This year the G5 staff packed more than 400 backpacks with non-perishable food for children to take home over the weekend.

From Backpacks for Bend:

Of the almost 16,000 students in the Bend La Pine School District, more than 7,000 qualify for free and reduced price lunch. Research indicates that even mild under-nutrition experienced by children during critical periods of growth impacts their behavior, school performance and overall cognitive development.

In the 2010/2011 school year, Backpacks for Bend provided more than 12,000 meals to Bend’s kids.
