How G5 Gave Back to Bend in 2018
Those of us who work at G5 know how lucky we are to work for a company that cares deeply about its community. Bend, Oregon, is a special place filled with special people. Sometimes, those people need help, and as one of the largest employers in town, we feel it is our corporate responsibility to give back to the city that gives us so much.
Let’s take a look at a few of the key initiatives and Central Oregon organizations we supported in 2018.
2018 Heaven Can Wait 5K
G5 has a lot of kick-ass employees, and when they tell us they’re passionate about something, we’re in too. The annual Heaven Can Wait 5k is one of those things. This year we got a sizable group of G5ers together to celebrate Central Oregon’s breast cancer survivors – including a few of our own.
Sara’s Project was one of the beneficiaries of the funds raised at this event. The organization does very important work throughout the community. They educate women on the importance of early detection and provide support services to ease the challenges of breast cancer for people in our region.
2018 Muse Conference
Celebrating the achievements of women is important to us, which is why we are a proud sponsor of the Muse Conference put on by World Muse, a local organization, each year. Their mission is “to connect women and girls to their own sense of purpose as well as to each other, and to provide the tools and support they need to create positive change in their lives, in their communities, and in our world.”
Bend YP Summit
At G5, we believe in providing employees with the opportunities they need to succeed – and not just in the office. This year we were happy to sponsor the first annual Bend YP Summit and send some our team to connect with other young leaders in the community.
Oregon Adaptive Sports Ski For All
It’s no secret G5ers like to get outside and have a good time, so it shouldn’t surprise you that we are big time supporters of Oregon Adaptive Sports. OAS is the premier adaptive sports organization in the Pacific Northwest providing year-round programming to individuals regardless of ability.
This year’s Ski For All was a staff favorite sponsorship. In addition to getting to spend a full day tearing up the slopes at Mt. Bachelor, we also got to meet some of the amazing people our sponsorship helped serve.
Huge shout out to G5’s own Julie Hackbarth, one of the event organizers. We can’t wait to do it again in 2019!
We believe in the power of education. And if we want Bend to continue growing as a thriving hub of science and technology, we have to support our schools. That’s why we chose to donate to OSU Cascades to help them raise the necessary funds to invest in new learning laboratories.
Parkinson’s Resources of Oregon
Sometimes you come across an organization that really speaks to you. Or at least we did this year with Parkinson’s Resources of Oregon. This non-profit’s singular focus is on improving the quality of life for those living with Parkinson’s disease in our community.
One of the major difficulties faced by people living with Parkinson’s disease is that they slowly lose their ability to remain active. Among the many services they provide, PRO helps combat this with exercise classes that help slow the onset of these more severe symptoms.
Up Next: G500
2018 isn’t over yet! G5’s biggest giving event of the year is on the horizon and our crew is already preparing for its arrival. Each year we partner with Kids Center and Saving Grace to divide the company into 16 teams and give each team $500 to fulfill the holiday wishes of families in need.
Keep an eye on our social channels to see how it all unfolds!
